And then there were seven... (März 2010)

Seven students withstood the rigors of our school's English Competition on Ash Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 and came out "smelling like roses" although most of them had danced the night away at a Hofburg Ball the previous evening. The winners this year were:
  • Lisa Derntl
  • Elisa Maier
  • Julia Rainer
Lisa and Elisa went on to the Vienna-wide competition on March 16th and 17th, 2010. Lisa placed 7th in a distinguished field of competitors from all Vienna schools in the Final Round on March 24th in Palais Festetics.

Throughout the preparation course twenty students practiced strategies and skills they will need for the new, standardized Matura: new and different listening comprehension tasks, reading comprehension and writing of short opinion essays. In timed 10-minute conversations they polished their oral skills on a variety of topics: donating organs, dancing classes in school, bike-sharing in cities, dolls for children with special needs, texting while driving and many more.

We wish to thank the two jury members, Prof. Ulrike Ryba and Prof. Almut Wakonig, for devoting their time to evaluating the written and oral work.
It is noteworthy that Lisa, Elisa, Julia, Helen and Christine have participated in the course for the past three years. They are to be commended for their involvement and ambition.

Congratulations to everyone!
